How to travel from Barcelona – El Prat Airport to the center of the city

The city of Barcelona is one of the main touristic destinations in Spain, this is the reason why its airport “El Prat” (IATA flight code : BCN) has become the one with 2nd largest traffic in the country, only beaten by Barajas – Madrid Airport. Terminals T1 and T2 at the Airport Barcelona – El Prat receive approximately 40 million passengers a year.

In our point of view, one of the main characteristics of the Barcelona Airport is that its two terminals (called T1 and T2) are located at only 12 kilometres southwest from the city center. Among other things, this particular characteristic of the Barcelona – El Prat Airport, regarding its proximity to the city, is a big benefit for many tourists and business travellers, since they do not have to lose part of their precious time with long travels between the airport and the city.

Travel by Train from Barcelona – El Prat

The Airport Terminal T2 connects directly with the main train station in the city, with a train from company Cercanias Renfe. If your arrival is to Terminal T1, you have nothing to worry about, there is a free shuttle bus connecting both terminals in the Barcelona – El Prat Airport in only 5 minutes.
Depending on your finishing station, the trip can last between 20 minutes ( Sants Station) or 25 minutes (Passeig de Gracia Station). If you want to arrive to Plaza Catalunya you will have to do a train to metro change at Sants Station.
The train has an estimated frequency of 30 minutes, the first one departs from the airport at 05:42 hrs and the last one at 23:38 hrs.

Transfer by Aerobus

The Aerobus Service connects the El Prat Airport with the center of Barcelona in a travel time of approximately 30 minutes with a frequency between 5 – 10 minutes (depending on the time of the day). The single ticket costs 5.90€ and the return ticket 10.20€.
This service has two lines that connect with each airport terminal, Bus A1 with T1 and Bus A2 with T2.

Transfer by Public City Bus

The airport of Barcelona has many public bus stations which take their passengers to different points in the city.
The main lines are:

46 Pl. Espanya <-> Airport T1 & T2

L77 Hospital Comarcal M. Broggi <-> Airport T1 & T2

L99 Aeroport-Aparcaments empleats T1 <-> Santiago Rusiñol-Doctor Trueta

PR1 Aeroport T1 & T2 <-> El Prat de Llobregat

N16 (Night Bus) Rda. Universitat – Pl. Catalunya <-> Av. dels Eucaliptus – Av. de Bellamar

N17 (Night Bus) Ronda Universitat – Pl. de Catalunya <-> Terminal Aeroport T1

Transfer by Metro

Since 2017, travellers are able to arrive to the city center via metro (L9 – Orange line), which connects to the main metro lines at several stations during its trip.

This metro line has a frequency of 7 minutes and stops at both airport terminals. In order to use it you must buy a proper ticket which costs 4.60 euros.

In our opinion, this option is great if you are traveling towards the south side of the city or the trade fair at Fira. If you are coming to Sweet BCN Accommodations we think this is a great option for you.

If you are coming to Sweet BCN Studio with Terrace or Three Bedroom apartment, you may do the same as above but instead of getting off at Lesseps station you should get off at Diagonal station.

If you are coming to Sweet BCN Traveller House or CoImpact Coliving.  From the airport you take the metro line 9 (orange line) and get off at Collblanc station. From this station you then take the metro line 5 (blue line) towards Vall d’Hebron and get off at Verdaguer station.

As you have seen the transfer from Barcelona – El Prat Airport to the center of Barcelona and vice versa, is not a difficulty, you even have different options to chose from to adapt your travel to your like and needs.
