Since the beginning of the Coronavirus crisis in March 2020, Sweet Accommodations has hosted 18 guests from the homeless community at our hostel in Barcelona.
The project has been created together with the NGO #HomelessEntrepreneur whose mission is to promote economic empowerment and poverty reduction via work and active citizenship, so people living in social exclusion can improve their quality of life.
Sweet Accommodations' initial response to the Covid-19 crisis has been to take care of our guests, employees and families. The best way we could help out our community during the state of emergency was to put our resources to the benefit of society.
Our company's mission has always been to offer a comfortable place to sleep to our guests visiting us. This crisis has given us the opportunity to keep doing what we do, with a different focus, a more open and committed one.
The #HomelessHostelsWork project has led to the creation of SweetHE Hostel, our very first Social Impact Hostel. SweetHE Hostel will host guests from HELP, a holistic program by #HomelessEntrepreneur. The program aims to upskill the participants to gain the necessary tools to enhance their employability, and ultimately become active citizens and end their state of homelessness.
Our mission at SweetHE Hostel is to create the perfect space for our guests to begin their transformation. A place to call home during the initial stage of their program, the beginning of their journey to regain self-esteem, self-love, trust in themselves, trust in their community, and hope for the future. Our hostel is where our guests create new relationships and trust. Most of the people living in the streets have lost their social connections, we are aiming to create a family.
Together we are building an informal support network for our guests and all the participants of the HELP program. We also want to offer our community the opportunity to support the program by participating in any of our social impact experiences and events.
The current social impact at #HomelessHostelsWork from March 2020:
The success of the project depends on an ecosystem that involves the whole community.
In order to create sustainable, long lasting social impact, the program needs the involvement of both the public and private sectors along with active citizens, coming together to fight and overcome the problem of homelessness.
The experience of #HomelessEntrepreneur and the HELP program allows us to quickly communicate and connect the right stakeholders to direct the resources where they are needed in the most efficient way.
The #HomelessHostelsWork project is scalable and ready to spread all over the world. This innovative solution to a social issue is proving its value, it is important to promote its adaptation, replication and scalability via direct leadership stemming from the organization that originated the idea.
