Sant Sebastiá Beach
The Sant Sebastiá Beach is located south of the city coastline. Due to its closeness to the city center, it is one of the most visited beaches in Barcelona by locals and visitors alike. In this beach, we can find the swimming and aquatic sports clubs. Sant Sebastiá is usually frequented by old adult beachgoers since it has easy and ramp access for people with disabilities (it also has a special area dedicated to nudists).

Sant Miquel Beach
Sant Miquel Beach is without a doubt the most visited beach in Barcelona and is also one of the oldest, was established in 1755. At this small beach full of activities we will find a wide variety of restaurants and bars. Sant Miquel obtains its name from a church we find in the neighborhood.
Metro: L4 – Barceloneta
Barceloneta beach is without a doubt the most famous beach in the city. Its wide offer of bars and restaurants, as well as the shops for renting sports equipment, make this beach a favorite among the young Barcelona crowd. If what you are looking for is a beach with the good atmosphere at day and night, do not worry, you have found it. We recommend you take your time to visit the neighborhood and enjoy some delicious tapas in the barceloneta market.
Metro: L4- Barceloneta
This part of the beach originally belonged to the Barceloneta, but it was renamed in memory of the old shanty town of the area that was demolished for the visit of Franco in 1966. This Barcelona beach is mostly visited by families, since there are play areas for children, and is also visited by beach sports lovers since it is equipped with volleyball courts and a gym. This famous beach has a limit the area of Port Olympic where you will find a variety of bars and restaurants like Opium, Shoko, and the Ice Bar.

Nova Icaria Beach
Nova Icaria beach is located just after the famous Port Olympic. This is one of the most tranquil and relaxing beaches of Barcelona close to the city and is mostly frequented by groups of friends and families. It is equipped with volleyball courts, ping-pong tables, and stores where to rent equipment for aquatic sports. Just as well, in its surrounding area, we find many quality restaurants to enjoy a traditional paella and seafood.
Metro: L4 – Ciutadella
This beach is less busy and crowded than the previous ones, so it is one of the most calmed in the city. The usual visitors are couples and elderly people. It is an ideal beach to relax since its sand is of finer better quality and there is not much people and noise. It also has sports equipment and benches to sit down and rest or read a book with the sounds of the sea.

Mar Bella Beach
This is our favorite beach in Barcelona. It was created during the renovation that took place for the Olympic Games in 1992. Its name says it all and doesn’t lie, it is a beautiful beach beginning with a lovely access surrounded by gardens. It is a calmed beach usually frequented by a young crowd. It also has a special area for nudists. During the summer there is a beach library where you may rent a book, and its beach bars are quiet animated with good music. Mar Bella has also the Nautic Base from which we can practice several aquatic activities. During the full moon nights, there are usually full moon beach parties at Mar Bella. We also find a great skatepark in its surroundings.
Metro : L4 – Selva de Mar
Nova Mar Bella Beach
Also created for the renovation of the Olympic Games in 1992, the beach Nova Mar Bella is one of the most calmed in the city since it is less crowded and not so equipped with services. It is ideal for people that want to disconnect and relax for a while. It is also well known by the surfers in Barcelona since during the winter times and in waves season it is one of the best ones to practice surfing.
Metro : L4 – Selva de Mar
Conditioned in 2006 it is the newest beach in the city and the one located the furthest from the center making it the quietest beach in Barcelona. It is situated next to the Forum, a place where big concerts and festivals are organized, and the shopping center Diagonal Mar, so it is ideal for people that are looking for beach time after a day of shopping.
Since 2016, Llevant beach has an assigned space for beach goers that want to bring their dogs. 1200 squared meters to enjoy the beach with your pet.

Beaches in the outskirts of Barcelona
At few minutes away, by train or bus from Barcelona, you can enjoy other amazing beach spots. If you want to get away from the city crowds we recommend you visit one of the beautiful beaches the catalan coast has to offer.
Here we tell you our favorite ones:
Beach of Sant Sebastià, Sitges
The beach of Sant Sebastià is located east of the beautiful church of Sitges. It is a small beach to enjoy with family and friends. It is quiet popular among the locals thanks to its relaxed atmosphere. It also has a boardwalk full of terraces from where you can enjoy seaside views with your favorite drink in hand. Total relaxation.
Beach of la Ribera, Sitges
It is one of the most popular and cosmopolitan of Sitges. Beach with clear and shallow waters, it also has services to hire beach hammocks, umbrellas and water sports equipment.
To arrive to Sitges from Barcelona we recommend taking the Renfe train R2 from Passeig de Gracia.
Located only one train stop before Sitges, it is a 5km long beach. Castelldefels is also a lovely small town to spend a full beach day. It has a long boardwalk, surrounded with flowers and accessible with bike. It also offers a great variety of beach chiringuitos and bars for all tastes.
The Castelldefels beach also has a nautical station to practice water sports.
Tossa de Mar Beach
Located in the famous Costa Brava, Tossa de Mar is, for us, one of the most beautiful beaches near Barcelona. In it you can relax and enjoy the mediterranean sea in any of its many coves and stroll around its old town and its imposing castle walls. It is an area well prepared to receive tourists so you will find all types of services, bars and restaurants with typical food.
To arrive to Tossa de Mar from Barcelona it is ideal to catch the bus from North Bus Station.
Canet de Mar Beach
We go to this beach so much that it has its own article. Click here to read it.
