Trip to Siurana from Barcelona
Catalunya is much more than Barcelona!
The ones who are lucky to live in this region are surrounded by beautiful natural parks, mountains, forests, beaches, hidden coves and much more.
We would like to take the opportunity to tell you a bit about Siurana, a small village in Tarragona that could easily be one of the most beautiful villages in the province of Catalunya.
Also known as Siurana de Prades or Ciurana de Tarragona, this village thrones on a rocky limestone cliff overseeing the torrent of Estopiñá & the Siurana reservoir. Its surroundings are full of rocks and cliffs making it a perfect place to practice rock climbing.
How to arrive to Siurana from Barcelona?
It’s not possible to arrive to this fantastic town by public transport.
We decided to rent a car through the web and mobile application Amovens, a convenient and simple way to rent a car from C2C (consumer to consumer). Being 5 of us travelers, this option came out at a very good price!
We chose to drive down the AP-7 road and took the exit to “Reus”. From there we continued on the N-420 road in direction towards “Falset”. At around “Borges del Camp” we took the road C-242
with direction “Cornudella de Montsant”. After that, we simply followed the directions to our final destination: Siurana! It took us 3 hours all in all to reach the village and the last part of the road is very curvy – so be prepared for some mountain-driving!
Where to sleep whilst in Siurana?
You will find various options on where to spend the night in Siurana. You can find everything from a hotel to refugee-shelters. We stayed at Camping Siurana and rented a trailer van for 5 persons, for the modest price of 70 Euros per night. The trailer van has a small kitchen which gave us the possibility to prepare our own meals, which is the best solution for a traveling group or a family that does not wish to spend too much. The camping we stayed at, however, has a small restaurant with affordable prices. What we liked the most was definitely the views we enjoyed from our home, breathtaking!

What to do in Siurana?
Walking through Siurana is like diving right through history. This little village was the last Muslim stronghold in Catalunya and you can go visit the Arab castle, built in the IXth century originally as a control center. Another place of great interest is the Church of Santa Maria, with a structure from the Romanesque time which has been preserved in all its integrity.
If nature is your thing, Siurana will leave you speachless. Surrounded by the “Sierra del Montsant”, the “Gritella and the Prades Mountains”, it has beautiful cliffs that invite for climbing and trekking.
The hiking trails will lead you to paths filled with stories about princesses and warriors. You can enjoy the striking beauty of the mountains, the steepness of the cliffs and the silence of the reservoir.
It’s the perfect place to relax, disconnect and connect with the wisdom of nature. We treated ourselves to a 3-hour long hike, we discovered waterfalls along the way and nature spoiled us with its color palette, fresh smells and extraordinary textures. Discover several routes for hiking clicking here.
We took advantage of the peace of the dark to walk around and discover Siurana by night and were treated to a starry sky that only a few places can gift you nowadays.
If you are looking for an adrenaline rush you will be happy to know that there are mountain bike trails as well.
We traveled during a public holiday, so we did not have the opportunity to visit the wine cellars in the area. If you are a wine-lover you should look into getting in touch with one of these wineries for a guided visit around the ranch, an great opportunity for an authentic experience.
As you can see, we have spent a weekend in pure luxury in Siurana and can still not believe not having visited this magical place before which is why we recommend it so strongly to our guests.
